In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Black Widow is a highly trained spy and one of the original Avengers. She is known for her expert combat skills, sharp wit, and unflappable nature. However, despite her many years in the MCU, she has never had her own movie. Some fans believe it is time for that to change.
The character of Black Widow
First appearing in the Marvel comics in 1964, the character of Black Widow has been a fan favorite for decades. The skilled secret agent and master of espionage has played a key role in many of the Avengers’ most iconic stories, and her personal journey from villain to hero is one that has captivated readers for years. With the release of the highly anticipated film Avengers: Age of Ultron, fans are wondering if Black Widow will finally get her own standalone movie.
Although she has yet to confirm anything, it seems that Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige is open to the idea of a Black Widow film. In an interview with Collider, Feige said that “we’ve started conversations” about a possible solo movie for the character. He went on to say that “it would have to be features something we haven’t seen before… a different genre or something like that.”
So it seems that a Black Widow movie is a possibility, but it remains to be seen if and when it will happen. In the meantime, fans can enjoy seeing her on the big screen in Avengers: Age of Ultron, which hits theaters on May 1st.
The MCU and Black Widow
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is an American media franchise and shared universe that is centered on a series of superhero films, independently produced by Marvel Studios and based on characters that appear in publications by Marvel Comics. The franchise has expanded to include comic books, short films, television series, and digital series. The shared universe, much like the original Marvel Universe in comic books, was established by crossing over common plot elements, settings, cast, and characters. Phil Coulson, Pepper Potts, Maria Hill, Heatherly Warburton, Ned Leeds, and Vision are the only main Avengers to appear across all three phases of the MCU
The first phase began with Iron Man (2008), which was distributed by Paramount Pictures, and concluded with The Avengers (2012), which was distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. Phase Two began with Iron Man 3 (2013), continued with Thor: The Dark World (2013), Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), Ant-Man (2015), and concluded with Captain America: Civil War (2016). Phase Three began with Doctor Strange (2016), continued with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017), Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), Thor: Ragnarok (2017), Black Panther(2018), Avengers: Infinity War(2018)Captain Marvel(2019)Avengers Endgame(2019).
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has produced all of the films in the MCU since 2008’s Iron Man. Phase One of the MCU saw six further solo sequels to Iron Man following his initial outing – as well as spin-offs for both Thor and Captain America – before 2012’s Avengers Assemble united these separate characters for one common goal; taking on Loki and his army at New York’s Stark Tower.
Marvel moved quickly to capitalise on this team-up movie’s record-breaking box office receipts – 2013’s Iron Man 3 pitted Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark against Guy Pearce’s Aldrich Killian while Chris Hemsworth returned in Thor: The Dark World to face off against Christopher Eccleston as Malekith; both subplots paying lip service to a much larger story arc that would eventually lead up to Avengers Assemble 2/Age of Ultron in 2015.
That same year saw both Captain America: The Winter Soldier – which revealed that Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes AKA The Winter Soldier had been brainwashed into becoming a deadly asset for Hydra – and Guardians of the Galaxy establish new cornerstones for future movies within the ever-expanding MCU; while Ant-Man provided a necessary injection of humour following Ultron’s comparatively dour tone.”Black Widow” is a upcoming movie in Phase 4
The possibility of a Black Widow movie
With the success of Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel, there is speculation that Black Widow may be next in line for a standalone movie. This is good news for fans of the character, who have been clamoring for a Widow film for years.
While nothing has been confirmed by Marvel Studios yet, there have been several indications that a Black Widow movie is in development. Here are some of the most compelling pieces of evidence:
1. Scarlett Johansson is signed on for six more Marvel movies.
2. The script for a Black Widow film was reportedly being worked on as early as 2015.
3. A stand alone Black Widow movie was listed on IMDBPro (a site used by industry professionals) in 2017.
4. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has said that he would “like to see” a Black Widow film.
With all of this evidence, it seems likely that a Black Widow movie is in the works. However, until Marvel Studios makes an official announcement, we won’t know for sure.
The demand for a Black Widow movie
Moviegoers and fans have been clamoring for a Black Widow movie for years, and it seems that finally, their prayers may be answered. While nothing is confirmed as of yet, all signs point to a solo Black Widow movie being in the works at Marvel Studios.
With the recent success of Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel, it only makes sense that Marvel would want to capitalize on the popularity of their female characters and give them their own movies. And who better to lead the charge than Black Widow, one of the most popular and iconic female superheroes of all time.
If the rumors are true and a Black Widow movie is in development, it would mark a major milestone for Marvel Studios and superhero movies as a whole. For too long, female superheroes have been relegated to supporting roles or side characters, but with Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel proving that audiences are more than ready for female-led superhero movies, it seems that the time is finally right for a Black Widow movie.
The pros and cons of a Black Widow movie
It has long been rumored that a Black Widow standalone movie is in the works, and fans have been clamoring for it for years. But is it actually a good idea? Below, we explore the pros and cons of a Black Widow movie.
1. Fans have been wanting it for years.
2. It would be a great way to introduce the character to a wider audience.
3. Scarlett Johansson is an amazing actress and she would kill it as Black Widow.
1. The character is not as well-known as some of the other Avengers, so her solo movie might not do as well at the box office.
2. Marvel already has a lot on its plate, with multiple movies coming out every year. Adding another one might be too much.
3. There is always the risk that a standalone movie might not live up to the hype.
The potential plot of a Black Widow movie
Would you see a Black Widow movie? If so, what would you like to see happen? Here are some ideas for a potential plot.
The potential plot of a Black Widow movie could center around Natasha’s origins. We could learn about her training as a spy and assassin, and how she became the “Black Widow.” We could also see her on missions, both with the Avengers and solo. And of course, there would be plenty of action and fight scenes!
Another possibility is that the movie could focus on Natasha’s relationships with her fellow Avengers. We could see her develop friendships (or more?) with teammates like Hawkeye or Captain America. We could also explore her complicated history with the Winter Soldier.
What do you think? Would you see a Black Widow movie? What would you like to see happen?
The cast of a Black Widow movie
It’s been rumored for years that a Black Widow movie was in development, and now it seems that the project is finally moving forward. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has confirmed that the studio is working on a script for the film, which is expected to star Scarlett Johansson as the titular character.
Johansson made her debut as Black Widow in 2010’s Iron Man 2, and she has since appeared in The Avengers, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Captain America: Civil War. She is also set to reprise her role in next year’s Avengers: Infinity War and its untitled sequel.
The director of a Black Widow movie
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Peyton Reed (Ant-Man and the Wasp) is in talks to direct a Black Widow movie. Although nothing is confirmed yet, this would be the first solo movie for the character, played by Scarlett Johansson.
Black Widow, also known as Natasha Romanoff, was introduced in 2010’s Iron Man 2 and has since appeared in The Avengers, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, and Avengers: Infinity War. She will also appear in the upcoming Avengers: Endgame.
Reed is best known for directing Marvel Studios’ Ant-Man and its sequel Ant-Man and the Wasp. He has also directed Yes Man starring Jim Carrey and Bring It On.
