Introduction

De De Pyaar De is a 2019 Bollywood romantic comedy film directed by Akiv Ali and starring Ajay Devgn, Rakul Preet Singh and Tabu. The movie was produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar and Luv Ranjan. Sound design is by Rakesh Ranjan. The movie was released on May 17, 2019.

The movie received mixed reviews from critics but was a commercial success at the box office, grossing ₹135 crore (US$19 million) worldwide.

Plot

A 50-year-old single father, Ashish (Ajay Devgn), falls in love with a 26-year-old woman, Ayesha (Rakul Preet Singh), half his age. When his family finds out, they are skeptical of her intentions. However, as they get to know Ayesha, they begin to see that she truly loves Ashish and wants nothing more than to make him happy. De De Pyaar De is a heartwarming story about family, love, and acceptance.

Cast

The film’s cast is its strength. The three leads, Ajay Devgn, Rakul Preet Singh and Tabu, manage to bring out the humour, pathos and emotion in their scenes. The supporting cast also does a good job, with special mention going to Javed Jaffrey for his hilarious turn as Aashish’s childhood friend.

Music

The musical score of the film is composed by Ajay-Atul, while the lyrics have been penned by Kausar Munir. The album opens on a good note with ‘Vaddi Sharaban’, a club number picturized on Ajay Devgn, Rakul Preet Singh and Tabu. The party track has been sung in three versions by Amit Mishra, Neha Kakkar and Dhvani Bhanushali. While Amit’s voice is suave and melodious, Neha’s energy is infectious. However, it’s Dhvani who stands out with her sensuous and sultry voice. She croons the word ‘Ishq’ (love) like no one else can which makes the club number an instant favourite.

Cinematography

The first thing that really struck me while watching the film was the cinematography. I seldom pay attention to these things but this time it was different. The frames were so beautiful that at times I felt like I was watching a travelogue. And it’s not just the foreign locations, even the way our characters have been captured is commendable. It really looks like a visual treat.

Editing

The editing in the film is very sharp and most of the scenes have been cut very well. The transition between the scenes is also very smooth and there are no unwanted or unnecessary scenes in the film.

Dialogue

The dialogue in the film is sharp and often quite funny. It’s easy to see why this film was such a hit with audiences. The characters are well-drawn and the situations they find themselves in are relatable. There are also some great one-liners that will have you laughing out loud.

Direction

De De Pyaar De is a 2019 Indian Hindi-language romantic comedy film directed by Akiv Ali in his debut. The film was jointly produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Tanuj Garg, Atul Garg and Luv Ranjan. The film stars Ajay Devgn, Tabu and Rakul Preet Singh. Ranjan also wrote the film. It marks the first time that Devgn and Tabu have worked together after 22 years, after working together in Mahesh Bhatt’s 1997 drama Ishq.

Production Design

The production design by Mayur Sharma is excellent. The large sets, the colourful interiors and the multiple locations give the film a lavish look. The costumes by Ekta Kapoor are also quite good, especially for Rakul Preet Singh who looks gorgeous in her Indian outfits. All in all, ‘De De Pyaar De’ is a well-designed film.
